THE ULTIMATE CONTAGION

May 2020

I have recently heard several messages on God’s admonition to Solomon. In

2 Chronicles 7:14, God told Solomon, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” While the original context is to Israel, I think the Christian today can find application as well.

Lately, all of us have had our thoughts drawn to sickness and physical health. But more dire than a physical illness is the spiritual sickness in our world. Our world is sick with sin! The disease of sin entered as the ultimate contagion when Adam and Eve disobeyed God. Romans 5:12 tells us, “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” Every person in the world has been infected and there is no escaping the death sin brings.

Doctors and scientists around the globe are working diligently to cure sicknesses and diseases. Everyone is hoping for the right medications and vaccines to be found to offer a cure. Ultimately though, those medication and vaccines can’t solve the sickness of our souls. We need the healing hand of God and the most wonderful news is that we already have the “cure.” 1 John 1:9 tells us, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” From Adam to Abraham to Moses to us now, God promises healing to all those who call on his name. God is just as faithful to hear our prayers today as he was to answer the nation of Israel’s cry in 2 Chronicles.

I am humbled with gratitude to serve an awesome God. It is such a privilege to be a part of His work! Thank you for also serving our God, and thank you for your interest in sending the message of God’s healing around the world. Only God knows the countless number of those who have heard. Please keep your missionaries before the throne of grace as they minister around the world.
